Tutorial 5 - 3 Facts Learned Blog
1) I learned about Wire Services. Wire Services are also called press agencies or news services. They are organizations that gather and disseminate information to newspapers, magazines, radio stations, and other organizations that pay for the received information.
2) I learned that journal publishers are now using DOIs (digital object identifiers) to identify their content, and assign a location on the web. These DOIs are unique alpha-numeric sequences assigned to journal articles and similar documents.
3) I learned that work created after 1977 is protected by copyright law for the life of the autor, plus 70 years. Works copyrighted by corporations or not-for-profit organizations are protected for 95 years from the date of publication, or 120 years from the date of creation, whichever is first. At this time they are made part of public domain, which means that anyone is free to copy the files without requesting permission. The creator of the work can place it in public domain at any time.
